Johan Mohamad is a passionate sustainability advocate and visionary bioeconomy strategist dedicated to unlocking the regenerative power of industrial hemp, circular economy systems, and transformative industry solutions.

Since 2010, Johan has championed the landmark “Towards Zero Waste” campaign with RCOMM LESTARI. He was instrumental in introducing World Cleanup Day to Malaysia and served as Mentor for Southeast Asia with LDI World Estonia — nurturing a movement that turns environmental awareness into lasting action.

In 2015, he founded Sekolah Hemp Malaysia, uniting like-minded pioneers. This grassroots initiative naturally evolved into MHIRA, the registered Malaysian Hemp Industry and Research Association. As Founder and President of MHIRA, Johan continues to elevate industrial hemp as a versatile, sustainable resource for materials, wellness, and environmental restoration.

At the heart of his work is connection — weaving together entrepreneurs, researchers, communities, and global sustainability networks to discover innovative applications of hemp and natural fibers in tomorrow’s industries.

Over the years, Johan has guided and empowered more than ten entrepreneurs and researchers in developing impactful initiatives across:

Today, Johan serves as President of MCARE Society (a registered NGO in Malaysia), where he leads community empowerment initiatives focused on sustainable development and environmental awareness.

Through MCARE Society, Johan actively drives programs that advocate for safer, regulated access to botanical and therapeutic wellness options — including plant-based remedies and innovations — by engaging with authorities, stakeholders, and communities to promote evidence-based, responsible approaches that support health, healing, and holistic well-being.

This leadership complements his broader work in regenerative bioeconomy and zero-waste systems, bridging grassroots advocacy with strategic industry transformation.
